Most of us don't do it often, and it's a HUGE financial move in addition to the more obvious significance that it will represent CHANGE.
When we change where we live, EVERYTHING moves.
The move itself represents change with SO many important things in our lives:
- Relationships - Family, friends, work associates, neighbors, hair dressers, auto mechanics . . .
- Jobs - Whether it be a career change, relocation, promotion, or retirement, occupational change in and of itself will rock your world.
- Lifestyle/Recreation - Shifting from urban to suburbs or rural - Condo to House - or any combination - a new location presents a whole new world to explore.
- Dreams - We all have them, and many of them correlate to where and how we want to (or need to) live - Dream fulfillment is a GREAT reason to sell or buy a house.
So . . . in all transactions of any kind, there are two fundamental factors we MUST consider so as to get the best bang for our bucks. Failure to get one (or both) of these right casts you into this zone of uncertainty that will likely taint your experience and outcome.
Thing 1: The Product is more than the house itself. It's the house + all of the above factors, and ALL of this matters. Of course, we all know that we may need to compromise here or there, but we believe that the more SMART (Specific - Measurable - Achievable - Time bound) are your dreams relative to this move, the more probable you'll be happy with the outcome.
Thing 2:The Process is the HOW of getting you there. As if the stressors of all of the change are not enough, this process of a real estate transaction has myriad people involved, much complexity with very defined time deadlines, and enough emotional energy to fuel a locomotive.
Because we like simplicity, we at Pareto Realty offer the following fail-safe "formula" which is sure to get you the PRODUCT you want/need WHEN you want it with a process that won't drive you crazy.
This is a 2 step process. The first step belongs entirely to YOU (the person contemplating a move). NO ONE can do this for you, and it's the MOST important piece . . . It's got 2 components:
Step 1a - Your Decision to move - You've gotta decide . . . Are you just poking around, or are you ready to ROLL? Without full commitment and motivation to do this, your home buying or selling experience will certainly be less pleasurable. Now is the time to get as crystal clear as possible about your WHY for this this move.
- What's the pain you'll salve by accomplishing this move?
- What's your end in mind?
- How will it feel when you get there?
Step 1b - Assembling your Team - You need 2 REALLY great Professionals to guide you through the process and look out for your best interest every step of the way. Oh you MUST get this part RIGHT!
- Real Estate Sales Professional/Consultant
- Mortgage Lender
These are listed in the "proper order" (IOHO) because the right REALTOR will introduce you to the right Lender, so start off with finding this right REALTOR. (a Vital Few Member of Pareto Realty would be a stellar choince)
Once you've hired your trusted REALTOR and prequalified with your ROCK STAR Lender, it's time to launch into the process.
In this 2nd step, your right REALTOR and ROCK STAR Lender will guide you through the entire process. Because these people are SO committed to making your dream come true, they will LISTEN to you - They will COMMUNICATE with you - They will EDUCATE you - They will ADVISE you - and they will negotiate on your behalf.
The only thing you'll have to do is . . . make ALL the decisions (based on your wants and needs and their advice) AND be diligent about adhering to the process which primarily means being accessible to sign documents and provide financial information.
There are 4 components to this process.
In the following 4 blog posts, we will offer you a sneak peek behind the curtain of uncertainty in your mind about this big ole hairy process of buying a house.
